Our Guides

We boast a team of experienced and talented guides, fully equipped to provide you with an unforgettable safari in the African wilderness.

Head Guide

Grant Murphy

Grant was born and raised in Johannesburg, where his talent for golf led him to completing his PGA apprenticeship and working as a golf club professional after high school. During this time, he studied marketing and management for 3 years, before getting the travel bug to explore the world.

Grant spent the next 10 years travelling through the US, UK and Europe. On his return to South Africa, he immediately started his journey to become a professional field guide, and has attained senior FGASA qualifications. Grant started guiding in the Timbavati in 2009 and joined our ranks at Kings Camp as Assistant GM and Head Field guide in 2014.

Grant has a passion for conservation & walking safaris and is particularly strong as a birding guide. He is an incredible host with excellent people skills, making him one of the most sought-after Timbavati safari guides. He also assists with operations for our vegan safari offerings.

Assistant Head Guide

Cynet Monareng

Cynet joined Kings Camp in 2006 as a senior guide, having worked previously at other lodges in the Kruger region. Cynet’s local roots make him a specialist in the bush, with a diverse wealth of knowledge on the ecology of the region. He is also an accomplished tracker and is often the first guide to track down Africa’s Big 5.

Field Guide

Remember Mashele

Remember’s rise at Kings Camp is a wonderful story and a shining example of what we believe makes our camp so special – empowering our staff.

Remember joined Kings Camp in 2004 as a tracker and spent six years gaining invaluable experience, training and knowledge working in the bush. His determination and will to grow has seen Remember aspire from tracker to a qualified field guide today. He is particularly good as a birder, and any guest wanting to focus on birding will not be disappointed in his company. He is certainly a standout amongst Timbavati safari guides.

Field Guide

Neil Coetzer

A born and bred local, Neil has lived his whole life within a stone’s throw from the Greater Kruger National Park. Growing up near the town of Nelspruit in a small village called Waterval Boven, Neil completed his schooling to go on and study Graphic Design in Pretoria.

He quickly realized that the hustle and bustle of the city was not in his genes, and a U-Turn in careers saw him completing a 3-year diploma in Game Ranging and Lodge Management through Damlin College.

Neil started in his guiding career in the Pilanesberg National Park before moving to the Timbavati and Sabi Sands respectively. Neil joined Kings Camp in 2017 with 7 years’ experience under his belt and from day one has shone.
